Lisa-Anne Julien hails from the Caribbean twin-island of Trinidad and Tobago and currently resides in Johannesburg. Most of her writing has a global feel, with stories that make connections across time, place and people. Lisa-Anne’s first full-length novel, If You Save Me, is published by Kwela Books in South Africa and set in Johannesburg, London and Trinidad. It was long-listed in the UK’s 2020 Mslexia First Novel Competition and for the 2022 South Africa Sunday Times Literary Award. It was the eventual joint winner of the University of Johannesburg’s 2022 Debut Prize for Fiction. Lisa-Anne’s essay, An Alphabet of Home, was shortlisted for The Fountain Magazine’s 2024 Essay Prize. In 2023, she was selected for the Jakes Gerwel Foundation and Passa Porta Residency in South Africa.

Lisa-Anne is the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize Regional Winner for Africa.
